Exploring our connection to food and fibre.

Women for Food and Fibre has emerged from a collective desire to showcase and support the women making positive contributions to the future of rural Australian climate-smart activities, including agriculture, land management, Indigenous practices, and innovative approaches to food and fibre. As climate conditions continue to worsen, creativity is instrumental in stimulating, supporting and expanding new solutions.

This platform has been designed to encourage and amplify the women who are continuing to seek knowledge and innovation that contributes to the efforts of rural producers, wild plant harvesters, manufacturers and many others making strides to achieve net-zero.

OUR PROGRAMS

Girls Talking Ag

This program was designed to develop the storytelling capabilities of sustainable producers across the Balonne, Paroo, Murweh and Maranoa shires. These women were invited to share their insights around sustainable production, as well as their diversification and drought coping strategies. Mentors and workshop facilitators introduced the program participants to multiple story telling mediums including writing, video and podcasting techniques.

Climate Women in Primary Production Stories

CWIPPS has two aims: to deliver workshops based on the successful Girls Talking Ag  model, and to provide a platform to support and publish the work emerging from all of the programs. CWIPPS will continue  facilitating opportunities to learn about sustainable agricultural practices as well as developing story telling skills across a diverse range of regional communities. The Climate Women in Primary Production Stories program also focuses on expanding opportunities for the stories developed to be widely distributed.

Indigenous Women Food and Fibre Entrepreneurs

This program has been designed to develop the storytelling capabilities of Indigenous women building sustainable food and fibre businesses across Queensland and Northern New South Wales. Most of these women utilise native plants through culturally safe practices that align with sustainable care for Country. Indigenous Women Food and Fibre Entrepreneurs’ combines in-person workshops, mentoring and one-on-one mentoring.

“Sharing our stories is so important to grassroot communities and especially those in rural areas. It is easy to see what we may lack in resources in our regions we make up for in the human potential that surrounds us.”
